4NGELS webinar: How to invest in Estonia?

Watch the recording of the first 4NGELS webinar

How to invest in Estonia? - was the topic of the first open webinar for 4NGELS programme participants, held on 22 March.

The webinar was part of the experience sharing sessions we have planned as part of the 4NGELS programme.

At the beginning of the meeting, Anu Oks, EstBAN presented the 4NGELS programme and the benefits of participating in the programme for investors, business angels and startups. The programme's mission is to support investors in making cross-border investment decisions, especially in Estonia, Finland, Slovenia and Poland.

During the meeting, experienced investors shared their knowledge on cross-border angel investments. The topic of the webinar was prepared on the basis of questionnaires answered by almost one hundred business angels from the four angel networks. According to the survey indications, one of the constraints that stops investors from engaging in cross-border investments is the lack of knowledge, contacts and experience in international transactions.

EstBAN members Hugues Flament and Mait Sooaru shared their perspective on angel investment across borders. Both experts are active investors and have extensive experience in international investments. Among other things, the investors answered questions about why Estonia is such an attractive and innovative market and what criteria they use when making an investment decision.

Hugues Flament talked about the trust that founders build through the open communication they have with investors. He highlighted the resilience of founders of Estonian companies, which is an important element for the success of a startup, especially during a period of more difficult access to capital for startups. Tax issues remain a challenge for investment, which will also be addressed in the next stages of the 4NGELS programme.
Mait Sooaru, an investor who has invested in as many as four startups in 2022 alone, talked more about how best to get to know the Estonian startup market. Mait recommends investors to attend the sTARTUp DAY conferences in Tartu and Lattitude59 in Tallinn. These are big startup events, so 4NGELS will not be missing there either. Lattitude59 will be held in Tallinn as early as May.

By joining Lattitude59 you will have the opportunity to meet investors, founders and representatives of the startup community, also 4NGELS participants. Startups that can count on getting investment and training from 4NGELS are especially invited to apply. Read more about Lattitude59 here.

See the full webinar recording here and join us for future meetings. We have scheduled the next training sessions on 6 and 18 April.

Future editions of the programme will focus on other countries. We will soon invite investors to participate in meetings dedicated to investments in Finland, Slovenia and Poland. You are welcome!
